The State Superintendent of Education serves as the chief executive officer of the Illinois State Board of Education, providing strategic leadership to ensure all students in Illinois have access to high-quality instruction and the support they need to succeed. Appointed by the State Board, the superintendent works in partnership with educators, policymakers, and communities across the state to implement education policy, oversee agency operations, and advance initiatives that improve outcomes for students. Through a focus on equity, accountability, and continuous improvement, the State Superintendent guides ISBE’s efforts to strengthen public education for more than 2 million students statewide.​​
