Due process is a formal hearing that occurs if a parent (or occasionally a district) files a due process “complaint” requesting a due process hearing. The hearing may involve attorneys and advocates for each side and will result in a legally binding, written decision that can be appealed to a court of law.

- ISBE is Seeking Special Education Hearing Officers: ISBE is seeking applicants to fill up to six slots as active Impartial Special Education Due Process Hearing Officers. The deadline for Hearing Officer applications has been extended to Thursday, April 30th at 5:00 pm CDT. Please note that current employees of local school districts and special education cooperatives cannot serve as due process hearing officers.
