Children’s Adversity Index

We have introduced an eye-opening new tool to help us address the interconnected, systemic challenges that affect students and their families. It’s called the Children’s Adversity Index, and it measures childhood trauma exposure in children ages 3 through 18 years old. This work is rooted in the reality that we cannot nurture the healthy development of children without acknowledging the conditions of the communities they call home. The Children’s Adversity Index will allow us, as a state, to come together and honor the concept of the “whole child” by recognizing the inequities beyond our school walls.
