Menu Certification Resources



Certification Options


  • Option 1, Nutrient Analysis - School Food Authority (SFA) submits:
  • One week of menus for each unique menu type or grade grouping;
  • One Excel certification worksheet for each unique menu type or grade grouping;
  • Nutrient analysis using USDA approved software in place of completing Simplified Nutrient Analysis tab of Excel worksheet; and
  • Attestation Statement PDF format - One per SFA
  • Option 2, Simplified Nutrient Analysis - SFA submits:
  • One week of menus for each unique menu type or grade grouping;
  • One Excel certification worksheet with completed Simplified Nutrient Analysis tab for each unique menu type or grade grouping; and
  • Attestation Statement PDF format - One per SFA
  • Submission of the above certification materials. The certification materials must be submitted by email to nsl6cent@isbe.net. In the email subject line please include District Name and Agreement Number/RCDT Code.

    SFAs may need the following items to complete the certification process, but these items are not submitted with materials listed above.

  • Nutrition facts labels
  • CN labels
  • Standardized recipes
  • Production records

 

 Certification Worksheets

Separate menu worksheets must be submitted for each menu type, by grade group within a district/SFA. SFAs completing six cent certification documentation have the choice of using the worksheets provided below OR USDA approved 6 cent certification tools or software programs.

Validation Reviews

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires state agencies to conduct on-site validation reviews of 25% of the certified SFAs.  The purpose of the validation review is to affirm that a certified SFA has met and continues to meet the updated meal patterns and to ensure that the meal service at the time of the validation review is consistent with the certification documentation submitted by the SFA.  ISBE will be in contact with SFAs that are selected for a validation review.  If selected for a Validation Review, please have materials requested on the checklist below readily available on the day of review.
