Statewide Task Force on Ensuring Success in Schools to Hold Public Hearing in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD—The Ensuring Success in Schools Task Force will hold a public hearing on September 11, 2008, to hear public comments on resources available for students who are either young parents or the victims of sexual or domestic abuse. The Ensuring Success in Schools Task Force is hosting a series of meetings around the state to gain insight and knowledge from local communities regarding the barriers to school attendance, safety, and school completion for children and youth who are parents, expectant parents, or victims of domestic or sexual violence.

The task force brings together legislators, advocates, educators, students and their parents, and state agencies to address the educational and related needs of elementary and secondary education students who are parents, expectant parents, or victims of domestic or sexual violence to ensure their ability to stay in school, stay safe while in school, and successfully complete their education.  From the public hearings, the task force members will develop policies, procedures, and protocols to be adopted by school districts to create solutions that will facilitate a safer, better education environment for all of the states’ students that are affected by issues pertaining to this law.
