Services and Information for Current Illinois Educators

The information on the following links is designed to assist teachers, school service personnel and school administrators in the State of Illinois. Should you have specific questions regarding licensure, please contact your Regional Office of Education.

Important Important Notices

  • Effective January 1, 2015: The application fee for a Professional Educator License, Educator Licnse with Stipulations, or Substitute License will be $100.
    Out-of-State application fees remain at $150.


An endorsement is a statement appearing on a license that identifies the specific subjects or grade level that the license holder is authorized to teach. Click here  for specific endorsement requirements. To apply for an endorsement, please submit an application online in the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS).

Note: After submitting your endorsement application, please have official transcripts showing completion of pertinent coursework sent to ISBE. To be official, transcripts must be submitted in the sealed envelope from the college or university or be sent directly by the institution. Transcripts received that are not in a sealed envelope from the university or not sent directly from the university will be considered unofficial and cannot be used for evaluation purposes.
