Equal attention to Learning Supports is essential so that:
- Every student will demonstrate academic achievement and be prepared for success after high school;
- Every student will be supported by highly prepared and effective teachers and school leaders; and
- Every school will offer a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
Risk factors are those variables found in individuals, families, communities, schools, and peers that put youth at greater risk of participating in delinquent and risky behaviors or developing mental, emotional, physical or behavioral disorders. For example, a youth exposed to physical and emotional abuse is more likely to develop mental, emotional, physical or behavioral problems than a youth who has not experienced trauma.
Protective factors that promote youth development and foster resiliency can help prevent, lessen, or counteract risk factors.
