The Career Development and Preparation Division in the Center
for Teaching and learning provides leadership and technical
assistance to local district, regional and state agency staff
to support quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) including
career development, occupational preparation, academic improvement
and postsecondary in the five occupational areas: Agricultural
Education; Business, Marketing and Management; Family and
Consumer Sciences; Health Science Technology; and Industrial
Occupations.
Division activities include instructional program improvement,
regional CTE Plan and grant approval, performance data analysis
and improvement, and interagency cooperation to enhance effectiveness
and efficiency of statewide CTE programs and activities.

The mission of this web site resource is to enhance the instructional
program improvement of career and technical education (CTE)
programs throughout Illinois by aligning lessons with the Illinois
Learning Standards, content-specific National Standards, Workplace

Workforce Experience and Career Exploration
Program (WECEP)
The Work Experience and Career Exploration Program (WECEP)
is a one or two year school-to-work transition program designed
for students ages 14 and 15 who are at-risk of dropping out
of school. The goal of the program is to provide intensive
intervention strategies to encourage at-risk students to improve
their academic class, develop a career plan that guides their
transition from school-to-work, demonstrate a positive work
ethic, and remain in school after the age of 16 by providing
a work-related class and on-the-job experiences.

The Southern Regional Education Board's High
Schools That Work is the nation's largest and fastest-growing
effort to combine challenging academic courses and modern
vocational studies to raise the achievement of high school
students. The initiative was established in 1987 by the SREB-State
Vocational Education Consortium, a partnership of SREB, states,
school systems and school sites.
