ISBE DELL e-Broadcast 2010.180—Summit for Bilingual Parents Registration

The Fifth Annual Statewide Summit for Bilingual Parents will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Marriott Resort Oak Brook Hills (3500 Midwest Road, Oak Brook, IL  60523) from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.  School districts with bilingual/ESL programs are strongly encouraged to register a delegation of bilingual parents who are members of Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) as well as staff who work with the PACs.  While this summit is aimed at members of PACs, other bilingual parents are also encouraged to attend.  Keynote presenters include Elva Treviño Hart, author of "Barefoot Heart: Stories of a Migrant Child" and Patricia Chamberlain, Early Childhood Education consultant.

The Illinois State Board of Education will reimburse school districts for registration costs ($200 for each person) for up to ten persons (eight parents and two school representatives). In addition, if the delegation travels more than 50 miles, the district will be reimbursed for travel expenses. To obtain a registration form and get additional details regarding reimbursement, go to http://www.thecenterweb.org/irc/pages/f_courses.html and click on "Fifth Annual Statewide Summit for Bilingual Parents".

Please send in registration forms along with payment to the Illinois Resource Center by April 23rd.  If you have specific questions about the conference, please call Paula McDaniel at 224-366-8555.
