ISBE DELL e-Broadcast 2008.128-The ACCESS for ELLs Test Administration On Line Training for Users is Changing

Dear Educators Serving ELLs

Due to the growth of the WIDA consortium and the need to improve services, school districts are advised that for the 2008-2009 testing cycle, WIDA will no longer be using the UW-Oshkosh Desire2Learn (D2L) platform for the ACCESS for ELLs® Test Administration on line training.

Beginning June 30, 2008, the new training course will be hosted and securely accessible via the WIDA Consortium website at:

At this time, the transfer of content from the D2L site to the WIDA website is taking place.

All users will be required to create new accounts in our course regardless of their status in the existing D2L course. More information about this requirement will be distributed in the coming weeks.

Illinois educators will need to create a new login using your IEIN number; the D2L logins will no longer work after June 30. There will be instructions on how to create the login and a direct link to our ECS system in case you do not know your IEIN number. You will need to use the district password that we have used with the WIDA account creator to create you new login.

The general WIDA website ( ) is accessible to anyone in the world, whereas the ACCESS for ELLs®

Test Administration Training site will be password protected and secure to maintain the confidentiality and security of the test items and personal user data associated with ACCESS for ELLs® training and assessment.

The WIDA Help Desk is well-versed in the technical aspects of the transition and will assist with your questions.  As a reminder, you may contact the WIDA Help Desk toll free at 1-866-276-7735 or by emailing

Additional announcements will be published on ISBE's Assessment and DELL listservs and webpages in the near future.

The new ACCESS training course will include:

  • the automatic generation of a certificate indicating the date(s) on which educators have passed each quiz (can be accessed and printed at any time).
  • the ability for users to enter their email addresses to receive an immediate reminder of their usernames, which will then prompt them to reset their passwords.
  • the ability for users to edit their state or district of employment, thereby modifying their enrollment in a particular group.
  • WIDA's favorite benefit: our ability to customize, control and improve the content of our course at any time!
